shelter trainings
Hi all,
I'm interested in any shelter related trainings in Thailand or neighbouring countries during the next 12 months, particularly related to community participation and needs assessments.
Does anyone know of any coming up?
cheers

Shelter Trainings
Hi there David
In answer to your question
As far as I am aware the agencies that run shelter trainings in the asia pacific area are:
Red R India and Red R Australia
Habitat for Humanity
IFRC
and newly ECB
I only know of these as I have trained with each of them, there may of course be more but I would be very pleased to hear it though mildly surprised.
In order A quick check of the Red R India and Red R Aus website and neither show a training in the next few months
http://www.redr.org.in/training-services-training-calendar-and-fees
http://www.redr.org.au/training-service/training-calendar-a-fees.html
Red R India would I am sure be happy to run a training in Thailand if you have enough participants
Person to ask Tanaji In Pune
I know that Habitat for Humanity is planning another Emergency Shelter and Settlement planning course, and although basically for their staff, they may well be very open to negotiation about including others have they have quite an inclusive and participatory approach to the shelter sector.
Person to ask: Chloe Pearse in their Bangkok Office.
As far as I know IFRC has no immediate plans for a shelter training in the region, having recently run one in Copenhagen. Additionally their courses are as far as I know for IFRC delegates and staff.
Person to ask: Gregg McDonald in KL Zone office
Only two weeks ago ECB piloted their new Shelter training for Humanitarian Managers. This training is primarily for the 10 ECB partners, and their implementing agencies, but again they have an open and participatory approach. The training is however quite specifically targeted to building the sheltering capacity of people WITH existing humanitarian experience
Person to ask: Phil Barritt, Care UK, Shelter Team
Finally Benchmark Consulting (the company I work for) in conjunction with Red R India has plans afoot to run a Shelter Training in Indonesia, sometime in the next 3-6 months, This training will be either bilingual or in English, date as yet not confirmed. Person to ask: me
Other than that...
umm... I'm more than happy to come run a shelter training anywhere, all we need is enough participants :)
Hope that helps
Dave
